Christmas E-Card

Christmas is especially wonderful for those who love the Lord!  It is for me.  I love Him!  This is a time of year when much of the world stops to celebrate the season.  The season of shopping– so there can be gifts under the tree to give a loved one and brighten their everyday.  The season of decorating with evergreens, glittery ornaments and lights– so folks can feel a little uplifted with the change of scenery.  Then there is the season of special Christmas songs– to bring back nostalgic, “warm fuzzies” and help set the tone for holiday, memory-making fun.  Lest we forget the season of eating too much. . .again!  Right on the heels of Thanksgiving, just a few short days ago– and we are still looking at left-over pecan pie slices in the freezer that seem to call our name in the midnight hours!

All this– and much more– in the name of celebrating Jesus’ birth?!  Come on!  Let’s be honest.  While the cultural traditions of Christmas are, for the most part, lovely, entertaining, delightfully distracting and pleasant, we must admit that it has little to do with recognizing the One, the Only, Begotten Son of the Living God that was born.  The Creator that became the Created.  Born to die for the sins of all mankind.  This Jesus that we love and honor daily, but especially on Christmas– He is the center of our attention.  At least He should be.  He deserves to be.

Pelle, my husband, wrote a wonderful Christmas song a few years back.  We recorded it then, and have re-released it on the compilation Christmas CD called “Come On Ring Those Bells” (that you can find in our Music Store here at the website.)  Let me quote the lyrics for you.

CHRISTMAS IS A LOVELY TIME OF QUIET, PEACE AND REST.
EVERYBODY GETS A LITTLE BREAK.
BUT THE BABY IN THE MANGER, AND THE SMILE UPON HIS FACE
CALL US TO A DEEPER LIFE OF FAITH.

CHRISTMAS IS ESPECIALLY FOR THOSE WHO LOVE THE LORD
THOSE WHO FOLLOW CLOSE TO JESUS, FROM THE STABLE TO THE CROSS.
THOSE WHO LOVE HIM SO THAT THEY WILL ALWAYS TRY TO MAKE
EVERY DAY OF EVERY YEAR A CELEBRATION OF HIS BIRTH.

WHEN WE FOLLOW AFTER HIM AND LEAVE THE CHRISTMAS SCENE
SOON WE SEE A HILL, A RUGGED CROSS
AND WE MUST APPROACH IT, AND BOW DOWN– THAT’S THE ONLY WAY
TO TRULY HONOR CHRIST, THE CHILD THE KING!

The only way to really honor the Christ Child is to bow at the cross.  His cross.  Your cross.  My cross.

If you never wrap a present this year, sing a silly Holiday song, or fight the crowds at the airport; if you never go to the mall only to leave empty-walleted (is that a real word?!) and over-spent in more ways than one– that’s OK.  You won’t miss much.  But if you lose the opportunity to adore the Lord, to get closer to Him– now, that would be a tragedy.

My family and I send you many blessings and heartfelt greetings!  We pray God’s very best for you and yours at this season– and always!
